About
The etymological root of Illustration is the latin “illustrationem” meaning “a vivid, enlightening representation”, and a stem of “illuminare” or “to throw into light”. Artemisia Cornett's drawing practice elaborates on the fantastical storytelling devices of fictional book illustration to render complex, dream-like landscapes that disrupt the Arcadian ideal, communicating intense experiences of being through restrained allegory. Ruminating on the fear, shame and longing underpinning escapist desire, lush pastoral foliage is set against animalistic violence, sympathetically rendering the base impulses released to re-wild and chew through Eden.
